Blueberry simple syrup is so easy to make and gives a fruity sweet touch to any drink or cake. Plus it only takes 45 minutes to make.

This is one of my very favorite syrups. It is fresh, fruity and perfectly sweet! I love how gorgeous it is as well. The color is so vibrant and rich.
It couldn’t be easier to make and only requires three ingredients. You can always try this recipe with our brown sugar simple syrup as well for a warmer flavor with the fruit.
What ingredients you will need
With just few things and a couple of minutes, you can make this delicious and fresh sweetener with just a hint of fruit.
We use the following ingredients…
- Water
- Sugar
- Fresh Blueberries
See, super easy! One batch will make many mocktails or make a three layer cake extra moist.
Fresh or Frozen Bluberries
This recipe can be used with either fresh or frozen blueberries. I do personally love using fresh but frozen works just as well and sometimes it’s just the easier option.
These other recipes can also be made with fresh or frozen fruit…
- Raspberry Simple Syrup
- Blackberry Simple Syrup
- Strawberry Simple Syrup
- Peach Simple Syrup

How to make it
- Add 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar to a pan and whisk well
- Add 1 1/2 cups of fresh blueberries
- Bring to a boil whisking occasionally then remove from heat and let steep for 45 minutes
- Pour syrup through a fine mesh strainer into a glass bottle, making sure to push down the pulp as you strain

What’s the best way to use this?
I love using it to make cake extra moist, especially when doing a layer cake. Simply brush it onto the top of each cake layer before frosting.
I also love adding a splash to any of these mocktails for a little blueberry touch. You can easily swap it out for other fruit flavors in drinks that have others.
- Valentines mocktails
- Non-alcoholic mimosa mocktail
- Prosecco drink
- Blackberry lemonade
- Non-alcoholic gin and tonic
- Lavender lemonade
- Grapefruit mocktail
It is also fantastic in a simple blueberry Italian soda with ice, soda water and cream.

How do you store it?
It can be stored at room temperature or in the refrigerator, whichever you prefer. You can use a glass or plastic container just be sure it is cooled before pouring if you are going to use plastic.
Does it need to be refrigerated?
Simple syrup does not need to be refrigerated. It handles well at room temperature.
How long do infused blends last?
You can keep infused blends for 1-2 weeks at room temperature or 3 weeks to a 1 month in the refrigerator. Once it starts to get cloudy or discolored, it is no longer good.
